Mel Tillis passed away on this date in 2017. Mel was CMA Entertainer of the Year in 1976. He had numerous hits as an artist but wrote classics for other artists like “Detroit City” & “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town”. I’ll be forever grateful to Mel for giving me my first break in Nashville when he signed me to his publishing company.
